Kirby said in a\u00a0LinkedIn post\u00a0on Thursday that he \u201cwas not only encouraged by what I heard, but I also came away with a renewed confidence that Boeing is on the right path and will recover faster than most expect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">United has 484 unfilled orders with Boeing, according to the manufacturer\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ortberg also met with\u00a0American Airlines\u00a0CEO Robert Isom earlier this week, according to a person familiar with the matter who wasn\u2019t authorized to speak with the media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Read more CNBC airline news<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Delta says chaos after CrowdStrike outage cost it $380 million in revenue<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Boeing\u2019s new outsider CEO takes the helm from the factory floor<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">NTSB 737 Max hearing puts Boeing\u2019s troubled factories in the spotlight<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ortberg, who previously ran commercial and defense supplier Rockwell Collins and has more than three decades of experience in the aerospace industry, took the reins at Boeing a week ago, spending part of his first day at Boeing\u2019s 737 factory floor in Renton, Washington. Ortberg will be based in Seattle, a shift from previous leaders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHis engineering background at Rockwell Collins, combined with an instinct to be close to his frontline teams in Seattle, makes for a winning combination,\u201d Kirby wrote on Thursday. \u201cIt was clear from our discussion that he\u2019s 100% engaged, understands the cultural changes needed to turn things around and is committed to listening to his employees and customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">United and other major customers such as\u00a0Southwest Airlines\u00a0have been grappling with delayed jetliners as Boeing tries to recover from its latest safety crisis in the wake of a\u00a0door plug blowout\u00a0on an\u00a0Alaska Airlines\u00a0737 Max 9 earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">No one was seriously injured in the accident \u2014 which occurred\u00a0after bolts that hold the door plug in place\u00a0weren\u2019t installed before the airline received the plane \u2014 but it came after a host of other manufacturing defects on Boeing planes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIn speaking with our customers and industry partners leading up to today, I can tell you that without exception, everyone wants us to succeed,\u201d Ortberg said in a note to staff on his first day last Thursday. \u201cIn many cases, they NEED us to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div>This post appeared first on NBC NEWS<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>United Airlines\u00a0CEO Scott Kirby says he is optimistic about\u00a0Boeing\u2019s recovery after meeting with the manufacturer\u2019s\u00a0new chief executive.
