Trump Media\u00a0said Friday it has started rolling out a\u00a0TV streaming service\u00a0that aims to air \u201cneglected\u201d content on its\u00a0social media\u00a0platform\u00a0Truth Social.<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s stock price, which trades under the ticker\u00a0DJT\u00a0on the Nasdaq, jumped more than 6% Friday morning on the heels of the news.<\/p>\n
DJT shares had been in a slump since the\u00a0share price\u00a0briefly surged after former President\u00a0Donald Trump, who is the company\u2019s majority shareholder, survived an assassination attempt on July 13. Before Friday, the share price had fallen more than 33% after that bump.<\/p>\n
Trump, who is the Republican presidential nominee, owns nearly 59% of the\u00a0company\u2019s stock.<\/p>\n
In a press release Friday, Trump Media said it is now stress testing the TV streaming service, dubbed Truth+, on its \u201cnew content delivery network.\u201d<\/p>\n
Once deployed, the company said, Truth Social users will be able to use the service simultaneously while they browse the platform\u2019s existing microblogging content.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re establishing a reliable home for great TV content that is neglected by the big corporations or is at risk of cancellation,\u201d Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes said in the release.<\/p>\n
That content will initially include news, commentary, weather and lifestyle and entertainment channels, with plans to expand with Christian- and family-focused programming, the company said.<\/p>\n
The company, which has billed itself as a conservative alternative to social media giants such as\u00a0Facebook\u00a0and X, claimed in the release that its streaming service will be \u201cuncancellable by Big Tech.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump Media last month as part of the rollout of its content network announced an\u00a0asset acquisition agreement\u00a0with the LLCs WorldConnect IPTV Solutions and JedTec.<\/p>\n
ProPublica on Tuesday reported\u00a0that JedTec is an obscure entity led by James Davison, a major Republican donor and energy magnate whose business interests could be affected if Trump wins a second term as president.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
