{"id":6568,"date":"2024-07-23T23:00:30","date_gmt":"2024-07-23T23:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstriumphs.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/23\/delta-cancels-hundreds-more-flights-as-dot-opens-probe\/"},"modified":"2024-07-23T23:00:30","modified_gmt":"2024-07-23T23:00:30","slug":"delta-cancels-hundreds-more-flights-as-dot-opens-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstriumphs.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/23\/delta-cancels-hundreds-more-flights-as-dot-opens-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta cancels hundreds more flights as DOT opens probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Delta canceled another 400 flights Tuesday as its troubles in the wake of the global CrowdStrike-Microsoft IT outage dragged on for the fifth consecutive day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Atlanta-based carrier also saw more than 300 flights delayed Tuesday. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"\">The ongoing issues have prompted the U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s Office of Aviation Consumer Protection to open an inquiry into Delta, citing \u201cthe high volume of consumer complaints\u201d it has received about issues at the carrier. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe have made clear to Delta that they must take care of their passengers and honor their customer service commitments,\u201d  DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. \u201cThis is not just the right thing to do, it\u2019s the law, and our department will leverage the full extent of our investigative and enforcement power to ensure the rights of Delta\u2019s passengers are upheld.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-widget__use-presentation embed-widget__iframely-datawrapper\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"iframely-datawrapper-dwcdn iframely-app iframely-embed\">\n<div class=\"iframely-responsive\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"\">Delta has been uniquely affected by the global IT outage compared with other major carriers, who have since largely resumed normal operations. In a statement on its website Monday afternoon, Delta estimated that more than half of its IT systems worldwide rely on Microsoft Windows. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Friday\u2019s CrowdStrike error, it said, \u2018required Delta\u2019s IT teams to manually repair and reboot each of the affected systems, with additional time then needed for applications to synchronize and start communicating with each other.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It continued: \u2018One of Delta\u2019s most critical systems \u2014 which ensures all flights have a full crew in the right place at the right time \u2014 is deeply complex and is requiring the most time and manual support to synchronize,\u2019 it said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A Delta representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.  \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Social media has been filled with images of passengers stranded away from their destinations.
