{"id":4094,"date":"2024-05-08T12:30:50","date_gmt":"2024-05-08T12:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstriumphs.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/08\/emirates-chairman-has-a-message-for-boeing-get-your-act-together\/"},"modified":"2024-05-08T12:30:50","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T12:30:50","slug":"emirates-chairman-has-a-message-for-boeing-get-your-act-together","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstriumphs.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/08\/emirates-chairman-has-a-message-for-boeing-get-your-act-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Emirates\u2019 chairman has a message for Boeing: \u2018Get your act together\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">One of\u00a0Boeing\u2019s biggest customers issued a call to action to its new management team, expressing frustration with the safety crisis facing the American planemaker and the consequent delays in order deliveries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019re not happy really with what\u2019s going on, we always really wanted to see this aircraft entering the fleet when it had been promised \u2014 and there is a delay, it\u2019s not only to us,\u201d Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and CEO of Dubai\u2019s flagship Emirates airline, told CNBC\u2019s Dan Murphy on Tuesday at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"\">With 245 passenger planes and five 778 freighters on order, Emirates is Boeing\u2019s largest customer in terms of widebody jets. But aircraft deliveries by the manufacturer\u00a0dropped in the first quarter\u00a0of 2024\u00a0to the lowest number since mid-2021\u00a0as the company deals with increased scrutiny after a\u00a0door plug blew out from one of its 737 Max 9 planes\u00a0midair in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The company delivered 83 planes in the three months to March 31 \u2014 most of them narrowbody 737s \u2014 compared to 157 in the prior quarter and 130 planes in the year-earlier period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Al Maktoum, who sits at the helm of the world\u2019s largest long-haul airline and helped launch it in 1985, echoed the sentiments of many other airline CEOs when it comes to expectations of Boeing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI think they have to put a lot of pressure in order to make sure that they deliver to the customer whatever they promised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Asked if he had a message for the planemaker, Al Maktoum said: \u201cI always say, you know, get your act together and just do it. And I think they can do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">CNBC has contacted Boeing for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The chairman did not indicate that Emirates would cancel the Boeing orders or move them to its French rival,\u00a0Airbus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cNo, no \u2014 I won\u2019t be able to say exactly what we are planning,\u201d he replied when asked about the likelihood of such a move. \u201cBut I think you see that we are refurbishing a big number of aircraft within the existing fleet \u2026 And there will be no shortage within Dubai capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He cited the airline\u2019s extension of part of its existing fleet, including the mammoth double-decker Airbus A380s, as helping provide sufficient passenger capacity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The recently-appointed new management team at Boeing is now tasked with navigating the company\u2019s worst crisis since 2018-2019, during which time two of its new 737 Max jets crashed within a period of six months, killing 346 people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Following the Alaska Airlines door blowout in January, the\u00a0Federal Aviation Administration\u2019s six-week audit\u00a0of Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems \u201cfound multiple instances where the companies allegedly failed to comply with manufacturing quality control requirements,\u201d according to an FAA release published March 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe FAA identified non-compliance issues in Boeing\u2019s manufacturing process control, parts handling and storage, and product control,\u201d it said.
