{"id":3211,"date":"2024-04-16T12:30:55","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T12:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstriumphs.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/amazon-owes-525-million-in-cloud-storage-patent-fight-u-s-jury-says\/"},"modified":"2024-04-16T12:30:55","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T12:30:55","slug":"amazon-owes-525-million-in-cloud-storage-patent-fight-u-s-jury-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstriumphs.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/amazon-owes-525-million-in-cloud-storage-patent-fight-u-s-jury-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon owes $525 million in cloud-storage patent fight, U.S. jury says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Amazon.com\u2019s\u00a0Amazon Web Services, the world\u2019s largest cloud-service provider, owes tech company Kove $525 million for violating its patent rights in data-storage technology, an Illinois federal jury said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The\u00a0jury determined that AWS infringed three Kove patents covering technology that Kove said had become \u201cessential\u201d to the ability of Amazon\u2019s cloud-computing arm to \u201cstore and retrieve massive amounts of data.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"\">An Amazon spokesperson said the company disagrees with the verdict and intends to appeal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Kove\u2019s lead attorney Courtland Reichman called the verdict \u201ca testament to the power of innovation and the importance of protecting IP (intellectual property) rights for start-up companies against tech giants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Chicago-based Kove sued Amazon in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 2018. The company said in the lawsuit that it pioneered technology enabling high-performance cloud storage \u201cyears before the advent of the cloud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Kove alleged that AWS\u2019 Amazon S3 storage service, DynamoDB database service and other products infringed the cloud-storage patents.
