JetBlue\u2019s leaders have repeatedly said they need a partnership to better compete against larger airlines like\u00a0Delta Air Lines\u00a0and United.<\/p>\n
JetBlue\u2019s planned acquisition of Spirit Airlines was\u00a0blocked\u00a0by the Justice Department last year, while its partnership in the Northeast with\u00a0American Airlines\u00a0unraveled after the carriers lost an\u00a0antitrust lawsuit\u00a0in 2023.<\/p>\n
The New York airline has been in talks with several carriers this year about a partnership. JetBlue\u2019s president, Marty St. George, said on an earnings call on Tuesday that the company expects to make an announcement this quarter. He emphasized that the partner\u2019s bigger network would allow customers to earn and burn loyalty points on JetBlue.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you are a customer in the Northeast and you love JetBlue for leisure, but twice a year you have to go to Omaha or Boise,\u00a0these are places that you can\u2019t earn\u00a0TrueBlue points on\u00a0now\u00a0and when this partnership goes forward, you will be able to,\u201d St. George said.<\/p>\n
United Airlines could possibly get a foothold (again) into JetBlue\u2019s home hub of John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York through the partnership. \u201cWe don\u2019t engage in industry speculation,\u201d a United Airlines spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n
An\u00a0Alaska Airlines\u00a0spokeswoman said the carrier doesn\u2019t have plans to partner with JetBlue and is focused on its recent\u00a0merger\u00a0with Hawaiian Airlines.<\/p>\n
Southwest Airlines\u00a0declined to comment. A\u00a0Delta Air Lines\u00a0spokesman said there was no pending announcement from the carrier about a partnership with another airline.<\/p>\n
JetBlue declined to comment further.<\/p>\n
American had been in talks to revive a different version of its partnership with JetBlue, but those failed and American said Monday that it\u00a0sued\u00a0JetBlue.<\/p>\n
\u201cUltimately, we were unable to agree on a construct that preserved the benefits of the partnership we envisioned, made sense operationally or financially,\u201d American Airlines Vice Chair Steve Johnson said in a letter to employees on Monday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
