The latest Chicago Fed Survey of Economic Conditions showed an\u00a0improved outlook\u00a0for the next 12 months. The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose to its\u00a0highest level since October 2018\u00a0in December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">To be sure, executives on\u00a0JPMorgan Chase\u2019s earnings call said that the optimism among business leaders has not yet resulted in loan growth, according to a FactSet transcript.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Stocks rose sharply in the immediate aftermath of Trump\u2019s win, as investors cheered the prospect of lower taxes and fewer regulations. However, many of those gains have since disappeared, in part due to a recent rise in interest rates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Trump, who is set to return to the White House on Monday, is seen as broadly more business-friendly than outgoing President\u00a0Joe Biden. During his campaign, Trump floated\u00a0lowering taxes\u00a0and reducing regulation, including around energy. However, his\u00a0proposed tariffs\u00a0have made some investors and business leaders nervous about the potential for higher prices and a disruptive trade war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Solomon\u2019s comments came on a conference call discussing Goldman\u2019s fourth-quarter results.
